Day in the Life of… Krissy Salmon, senior high-net-worth account manager, OSB Group

My alarm goes off at…

…6am as this is the time my two-year-old wakes up, so we all get up to get ready for the day.

Some days, if I’m travelling into London for client meetings, I set my alarm for 5am as I get the 6.31am train.

So it’s all about planning the logistics at home in order to strike that balance of work and home life.

I wanted to work in the finance industry because…

…I wanted to work in a sector where I could develop and progress along a career path. The finance industry offered a wide variety of opportunities.

My role is about providing the client and broker with a 360-degree service

I’ve worked in different finance roles that have provided invaluable experience and enabled me to develop and learn new skills while increasing my specialist knowledge.

Something that surprised me about my job was…

…how diverse my clients were, and the role itself.

The high-net-worth (HNW) team sits across all OSB Group lending brands — InterBay, Kent Reliance for Intermediaries and Precise Mortgages — so it’s a great ‘toolkit’ when a broker or their client gets in touch to ask a question around further business development.

OSB Group really invests in its employees. This year I have achieved a new qualification (Certified Practitioner in Specialist Property Finance) due to its support

Over the past 18 months of the HNW team’s existence, we’ve built excellent relationships with both our brokers and their clients. It’s great that they feel confident and comfortable to pick up the phone or send us an email just to ask a wide range of questions.

I’m most proud of this role. In the past 18 months I’ve returned from maternity leave, moving into this new role and department, which has also enabled me to progress to become the senior HNW account manager, heading the team. It’s been an amazing journey so far and I’m excited to see how things develop even further.

A misconception about my role is…

…that I get involved only in new business.

This couldn’t be further from what I do. My role is about providing the client and broker with a 360-degree service.

I’m the linchpin that deals with all aspects of a case for our HNW clients. I work with almost every department within OSB Group, from real estate to underwriting to completion to servicing, and everything in between.

My typical working day entails…

…nothing typical; every day is different. I can be working from home or from one of the offices, meeting with clients, going on property visits or presenting a case to our transactional credit committee, so no days are really ever the same.

Our roles in the HNW team are a three-way relationship between us, the broker and their client.

A perk of the job is…

…I love working with people and I also go out to see some of the amazing properties for which we have secured finance.

I get to meet really interesting and diverse people, some of whom are very well connected, so it does feel a privilege to be involved in some part of their journey with them.

Another key advantage is that OSB Group really invests in its employees. This year I have achieved a new qualification (Certified Practitioner in Specialist Property Finance) due to its support.

My favourite work memory is…

…attending a private-dining members’ club with a client and hearing first-hand the story of how they had built their business and the journey they’d been on.

Having this type of one-on-one time with a client is very special and really helps to develop that working relationship.

To unwind after work, I…

…do normal activities like everyone; so reading, eating — I’m a foodie and love to eat out — appreciation of red wine, and most importantly being a mum!

We do lots of children’s activities when I’m not working. I like to dedicate a lot of my home time to creating experiences and memories with my daughter. We read together, cook together, go exploring together.
