Health Shield staff take part in triathlon for bowel cancer charity

A team of employees from Health Shield are taking part in a challenging triathlon, the second year in succession that the fundraisers have taken on the event in aid of Beating Bowel Cancer.

Thirty-seven Health Shield triathletes will attempt a 500m swim, a 20km cycle and a 5km run at the North West Triathlon event on Sunday 8 September. As well as four Health Shield staff who are taking on all three parts of the triathlon, 11 teams of three have also been formed, with each person completing one element of the challenge.

They hope to raise more than £2,000 for the charity, which was chosen after Health Shield finance director Maxine Wilson was diagnosed with bowel cancer and has fought the disease over the past 12 months.

Health Shield has pledged to match-fund the amount raised, bringing the final amount to in excess of £4,000.

The competitors (who this year include: chief executive Jonathan Burton; chief risk officer Courtney Marsh; and Mick Yates, non-executive director) will be accompanied by Maxine’s husband and son, Ian and Adam Wilson.
