Constructive talks were held at the ‘mortgage summit’ held yesterday in London between Labour’s shadow housing secretary Lisa Nandy, shadow chancellor Rachel Reeves and mortgage broker representatives.
Nandy commented: “It was good to hear from brokers and financial advisers at our emergency summit today about what they’re seeing in the mortgage market. The government cannot continue to stand by while they and families across the country battle the turbulence of this mortgage crisis”.
Coreco managing director and chairman of the Ami said he was delighted to chair a meeting with senior members from the Labour Party around the mortgage crisis.
“A diverse selection of mortgage brokers and representatives from small and large firms sharing what life is like on the coal face advising clients. Lots of ideas for the future and it was refreshing to have a constructive debate and thankyou for listening”.
Ami chief executive Robert Sinclair echoed Montlake’s positive view on the meeting:
“We introduced a number of brokers who are subject matter experts to the core of the Shadow Cabinet team. We were able to bring brokers from the Midlands, South Coast and London who conveyed their expertise in Shared Ownership, BTL, standard residential and New Build.
“We discussed Labours’ plans to change the housing market and updated them on what is the real experience for consumers and brokers facing into a cost of living crisis and significantly higher mortgage interest rates.
“Rachel and Lisa were interested in the real experiences that people are facing into, how this will impact their lives and how the broker community can help deliver advice to improve situations”.
He addedL “Ami is grateful for the opportunity to interact with two senior parliamentarians and their teams who wanted to know what is really happening.”
